A practical downsizing checklist for a NYC move
Plan a later-life move around the home you are going to, the belongings you want nearby and a clear division of tasks, with room-by-room downsizing steps.
Leaving a home you have lived in for years can involve decisions that take time. We help with the packing and moving while you decide what comes with you, whether you are planning for yourself or helping a parent.
Step 1 of 4: Move
Thanks, we’ve received your request.
We’ll review your plans and reply from kieran@keepsakemoving.com within one business day. If we need more information for the quote, we’ll ask you then.
Need us sooner? Call (212) 203-3171.
You do not need to finish every decision before speaking to us. Tell us what is settled, what is still being discussed and who you would like involved. A free video or in-person survey lets us look through the home and answer questions together.
We can pack the whole home or just the rooms you choose. If you want to handle photographs, paperwork or other personal belongings yourself, keep those separate and let us know. The moving plan should respect the decisions you have made.
What we move
Once you decide what is coming, we can plan the move around those belongings. Mark the pieces still under consideration so they can be reviewed before the date.
Discuss a downsizing moveIf family members are in different places, identify the main contact and who will be at the home. That helps keep practical questions with the right people.
Plan a family moveYou can keep the personal sorting in your own hands and ask us to pack selected rooms or the agreed contents of the whole home.
Packing services
When some furniture is moving and other pieces are staying, use separate lists or clear labels. Confirm any family collections independently, and tell us if you want an additional delivery address included in the move.
We can arrange storage if there is a gap before the new home is ready. If you need unwanted items removed, include that as a separate request so it can be assessed alongside the move. Decisions about what to keep remain yours.

Yes. Tell us that you are coordinating the move and identify who will provide access and be present at the home. We will confirm the practical arrangements with you before booking.
No. Begin with the rooms and belongings you expect to move, and flag anything undecided. Update us as the moving list changes so the final quote reflects your choices.
Yes. We offer a free survey by video or in person. It is an opportunity to show us the home and discuss the packing and access before agreeing the work.
Of course. Let us know which contents you are handling and which you would like us to pack. Packing normally takes place on moving day, or on the first day of an agreed two-day move.
You receive a written, guaranteed flat price for the agreed moving work. We review the inventory, addresses, access and any packing or storage with you. Taking longer does not increase that price.
Send the building management contact or written requirements. We coordinate the certificate of insurance directly with management. Share any permitted moving hours or access restrictions when planning the date.
