Toward Ditmars you get more two-family and detached houses, where the move is often a basement or a top floor rather than a shared stairwell. Closer to the water there are newer elevator rentals, and those buildings tend to want a certificate of insurance on file and a booked freight elevator before move day. Where will the truck park on my Astoria block?
Most side streets off Ditmars and 30th Avenue run alternate-side parking, so we time the truck for a clear side and keep the carry to your door short. On the busier commercial stretches like Steinway Street we find the nearest legal spot on a quieter cross street instead. Tell us your block and cross streets, and we'll work the parking out before the day.
I'm in a walk-up over the shops on 30th Avenue. Is that a problem?
Not at all, a walk-up over the shops is a straightforward move. Three flights with a turn at the landing means we pad the banister and the hallway plaster, and we angle the bigger pieces so they clear the corner cleanly. If you've moved into one of the newer elevator buildings by the water, we book the freight elevator with the front desk instead.
Does my building by the water need a certificate of insurance?
The newer elevator rentals near the waterfront almost always ask for a COI before they'll let a mover in, and the management company sets what it wants listed. Send us the building's requirements and the managing agent's details, and we'll send the certificate over ahead of your move date. The older walk-ups on Ditmars and 30th Avenue usually don't ask for one.
